Enhanced Document Builder with Automatic Custom Variable Population

Overview

If you’ve ever input a custom value (say a product description) in a document and added a signature element, you may find that the final version received by your customer has a misplaced signature, especially if the description was more than a couple of lines long.

With our new updates, that won’t happen anymore!

What’s New?

  • Automatic Custom Variable Population in Document Builder
  • Auto-populate Custom Variables: When you input a custom variable in the format custom_variable, the relevant value automatically populates. If no principal contact is chosen, the custom variables won’t render any values.
  • Backspace/Delete Key Handling: While pressing the backspace or delete key: If the cursor is within the populated value, it gets removed, which reverts it to the custom variable template.
  • The custom variable template such as ‘name’ can be conveniently edited by removing characters from the end and updating it to reflect any changes made (e.g., name to {{name to {{nam).
  • Editable Custom Variable Templates: Users can edit the custom variable template as long as it remains in the format custom_variable until it is fully deleted.

How to Use?

To use these new features:

  • Input a custom variable in the format custom_variable within the document builder. If a main contact is chosen, the custom variable automatically populates with its corresponding value.
  • If no central contact is chosen, the custom variable will stay as custom_variable without producing any value.
  • Handling Backspace/Delete Key: Position the cursor within a populated custom variable value and press backspace or delete to eliminate the value. The text will then revert to the custom variable template. Users can edit the template by deleting characters, ensuring it stays editable, and updates accordingly (e.g., from ‘name’ to ‘nam’).

Why This Feature?

Prior to these changes, the appearance of documents in editing mode was different from the final version because the custom values varied in length. This discrepancy could distort the final PDF sent to the customer due to misplaced signature elements. These new features greatly enhance Connectly’s document builder function, making it simpler and more efficient for users to work with custom variables.
